FAQ

Recurring questions from lawyers, legal professionals and employers answered.

Answers to recurring questions lawyers, legal professionals and employers ask us about legal recruitment at Steve Skills.

I am a candidate

What does it cost me as a candidate?

Nothing. Ever. Our service for candidates is completely free. We are paid by the employer after a successful placement. Your interest is our interest.

My employer absolutely cannot know this.

Discretion is not optional for us; it is a given. We never send a CV or profile without your explicit consent. Your current employer will not find out.

What exactly do you do for me?

Applying is a job - ours. We take the process off your hands: introduction, selection of relevant vacancies, preparation for every interview, feedback after each round, salary negotiation and guidance up to signature - and after.

I want to move but cannot find anything on your site.

What you see here is the tip of the iceberg. We also work proactively - based on your profile, needs and ambitions, we actively search our network, including beyond published vacancies.

I am not actively looking. Why get in touch?

Because the best moves are rarely planned. A 20-minute conversation gives you more market insight than a year of LinkedIn scrolling. Curiosity commits you to nothing.

Why Steve Skills instead of applying myself?

To paraphrase Adele: Legal from the other side. We are lawyers recruiting lawyers. We know the market, firms and profession from the inside. We go beyond the vacancy - culture fit, internal dynamics, honest advice.

I already know someone at that firm. Should I go directly?

You can. We do not recommend it. Through us, you keep an objective position in the process - we negotiate for you and create clarity without putting your relationship at stake.

I have already contacted several recruiters. Is that a problem?

Not necessarily. We work exclusively for specific vacancies - we openly discuss which roles run through us and how best to guide your situation. Transparency is our standard.

I am an employer

What is your added value as an employer?

We are lawyers ourselves. We know your sector, your needs and the candidates you are looking for. Not a generalist - a specialized team that speaks your language and moves fast.

What are your terms - and what does it cost?

Our fee is success-based - you only pay after a successful placement. We discuss rates during a no-obligation introduction, tailored to your situation.

How quickly can you introduce someone?

Usually within 48 hours for profiles in our network. For a full recruitment process, timing depends on the profile - we communicate transparently about the expected timeline.

Permanent, freelance or interim - what can you find?

All three. We specialize in permanent positions (law firms, in-house, partner & C-suite), legal freelancers and legal interim managers. A solution for every need.

How do you respect candidate confidentiality?

We never send a name, CV or contact details without double approval - from the candidate and from you as employer. Every profile is anonymized until both parties agree.

How does requesting a profile or vacancy work?

Get in touch for an intake - by phone or face-to-face. We discuss your needs, the profile and timing. Within 48 hours, we introduce a first selection.

Are there candidates who are not on the site?

Absolutely. Our site shows a selection. Our network counts hundreds of screened legal profiles. Contact us for a complete, tailor-made overview.

Do you also work for small firms or scale-ups?

Absolutely. We work for boutique firms, national firms, multinationals, scale-ups and financial services. Our approach is always tailor-made - whatever the size of your organization.
